Social Justice
The goals of the group are to:
- Promote the values of the Kingdom of God and respond to the call to "act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with our God" (Micah 6:6-8)
- Help create a parish that is active in promoting the church's mission to liberate human beings from every oppressive situation (Synod of Bishops Justice in the World)
- Educate and raise awareness, in ourselves and others, about issues of poverty and injustice.
- Encourage a personal response to local and global situations of inequality and oppression.
- Open up discussion and initiate action about situations that call for a response.
- Network with groups and organisations whose goals are similar to our own.
Current issues for education and justice action are:
- Climate Change - our responsibility to sustain God's Earth
- Support for the poor and oppressed in Zimbabwe
- Promotion of Fair Trade and selling of Fair Trade Products
- Justice for refugees and asylum seekers
- Just Work Issues
- Aboriginal Reconciliation - justice for aboriginal people
Meetings of the group occur regularly. Contact the Co-ordinator through the Parish Office.
